Oil Changes:
Why It’s Important:
Oil lubricates engine parts, reducing friction and preventing wear. Over time, oil breaks down, becomes contaminated, and loses its effectiveness, making regular oil changes crucial for engine health.
How to Do It:
Step 1: Gather materials: oil filter wrench, drain pan, new oil filter, and correct oil type.
Step 2: Warm up the engine to help the oil flow out easily.
Step 3: Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
Step 4: Place the drain pan under the oil drain plug and remove the plug using a wrench. Allow the oil to drain completely.
Step 5: Replace the oil filter by unscrewing the old one, lubricating the new filter's gasket with fresh oil, and installing it by hand.
Step 6: Replace the drain plug and fill the engine with the recommended amount of new oil.
Step 7: Check for leaks and then lower the car. Dispose of the used oil properly.
When to Change:
Typically every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, depending on the vehicle and oil type. Check the owner’s manual for specific intervals.
